DWT recently completed a comprehensive transformation of its U.S. Training Center in Humble, Texas, expanding its ability to deliver hands-on technical and safety training for renewable energy technicians.
The project, which spanned about 18 months from planning through completion, reflects DWT’s commitment to developing the industry’s safest and most technically proficient workforces. The facility supports more than 200 trainees annually and serves as a cornerstone of DWT’s technician development program.
The renovated facility now features a Siemens 2.3-93 nacelle complete with hub and downtower assembly, an MHI 1000A simulator, basic electrical and hydraulic training, intermediate troubleshooting rooms, and a 5-MW solar inverter, providing technicians with training opportunities across multiple renewable energy technologies. DWT also expanded its fundamental electrical and hydraulic training areas, and its intermediate and advanced technical training classrooms.
A new training tower further enhances the facility’s capabilities, allowing up to six trainees to participate simultaneously and enabling instructors to conduct multiple rescue scenarios at once.
“In 28 years of working in wind energy, I have not seen nor been involved with the buildout of an independent service provider training facility such as DWT’s,” said Russ Leach, vice president of Enterprise Systems, Processes & Quality.

We were able to continue all of our climb training, safety training, and technical training programs even while the remodeling and installation of the nacelle and other equipment were ongoing.”
DWT’s Training Center is part of a development system that combines classroom instruction, online learning, hands-on technical training, and structured on-the-job experience.
Together, these elements ensure technicians demonstrate competency before performing work in the field, supporting DWT’s commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence across the renewable energy industry.
