S. Himmelstein and Company

0

S. Himmelstein and Company has been designing and manufacturing the world’s best torque measurement transducers, torque sensors, and instrumentation since 1960. Our products offer significant advantages over competitive models, enhancing their overall performance under real world conditions, not just in the calibration stand.

Highest Available Mechanical Overloads
Select from 200%, 400%, 500% and 1,000% overload models. The flexibility to select torque sensor mechanical overload allows optimal sizing of the sensor to suit the application, even in the presence of peak torques that exceed the average running torque.

High Electrical Overrange
All Himmelstein Torque Transducers and Instruments with high level dc analog output voltages, have significant electrical overrange (130% to 150% in most cases.). This means that the output signal does not clip at full scale. All rotating mechanical systems have oscillatory signals. When operating at or near full scale, insufficient overrange on the output signal will cause clipping of the peak values and result in incorrect display of the average torque. Himmelstein Torque Transducers will provide accurate measurement, even beyond full scale.

Best Dynamic Measurements
Our Bearingless Torque Flanges are the best choice for dynamic measurement and control. That’s because the world’s highest torsional stiffness yields wider installed bandwidth and faster installed response than any competitive device. They also feature industries highest overrange and greatest isolation from clamping and other extraneous loads. Those features reduce errors from clipped torque peaks and parasitic loads.

World Class Temperature Performance
Superior temperature compensation results in sensor temperature performance that greatly reduces errors caused by drive heating and thermal gradients. This level of temperature performance allows us to offer Dual Range Torque Transducers with high accuracy.

Broadest Available Range of ISO17025 Torque Calibration Services
Available calibration ranges from 10 ozf-in to 4,000,000 lbf-in (0.07 Nm to 452,000 Nm). Accreditation is through NVLAP, an arm of the United States NIST, lab code 200487-0. Nine calibration stands are available to provide optimal measurement uncertainty for the range of transducer being calibrated. Services are offered for torque transducers manufactured by Himmelstein as well as those of other manufacturers. ISO 17025 accredited NIST traceable calibration certificates are provided with each calibration.

Specialties
Torque Transducers, Torque Transmitters, Torque Sensors, Signal Conditioners, Calibration

Windrush LLC

0

WINDRUSH LLC was established in order to market bolt and nut cleaning tools to the wind turbine industry. As is known in the industry it is very important to have clean threads when connecting a bolt and a nut to fasten any type of equipment together.

One of the most critical areas in THE WIND TURBINE industry is the foundation anchor bolts, which holds the tower to the foundation. In most wind turbine applications this consists of approximately 160 – 1 3/8” bolts. In new construction applications having a clean nut, bolt and mating surface will insure proper makeup and tension. In existing applications the need to clean the nuts, bolts and the base is necessary in order to either re-tension and/or to coat them with a non-corrosive coating.

The most time efficient and effective way to clean the anchor bolts is with the Shipman anchor bolt cleaning tools. The set consists of 3 tools, one tool to clean the bolt, one tool to clean the nut and another tool to clean the top of the nut and the base of the tower. This is accomplished by using a slow speed half-inch electric drill.

Estimated time to clean one bolt would be approximately 3 minutes or less depending on the condition of the fastener and the amount of rust present. On a tower with 160 bolts at 3 minutes per bolt the time to clean all of the bolts on the tower would be approximately 8 hours. Using a two or three person crew and working in succession can cut this time. Even at the 3 minutes per bolt a crew could clean the entire tower in an 8-hour period. This is far less time than the amount of time needed to clean by hand with a hand held wire brush or other methods and with much better results.

Meggitt Sensing Systems

0

Modern energy-generation plants contain myriad rotating parts, ranging from vast turbine blades to tiny cooling fans. Because they are constantly in use, enclosed in protective casings and often operating in inhospitable temperatures, pressures and chemical mixes, it is difficult for engineers to check they are functioning correctly. This is where health monitoring comes in. Machinery protection, condition monitoring, industrial vibration monitoring and partial discharge monitoring are related services provided by Meggitt to enable operators to remotely monitor the health of their machines while they are in action.

Highly durable sensors placed close to critical pieces of equipment relay information on everything from vibration anomalies to electrical currents back to a central computer system. By inspecting patterns within the signals, analysts can easily see if their equipment is in fine fettle or in need of some attention. Because any potential problems show up early on, engineers can schedule physical inspections and repairs for optimal times, when energy demand is low. Most important, health monitoring avoids catastrophic failures, potentially saving billions of dollars.

In the wind industry, industrial vibration monitoring has proven to be so effective that many insurance providers won’t provide cover without it. When the first wind turbines were installed in Europe, their planetary-style gearboxes were prone to failure due to gear-oil overheating and mechanical wear caused by gusts of wind and misalignment. Turbines often caught fire, resulting in lengthy and costly downtime. Operators needed a way to monitor the health of their turbines and turned to vibration monitoring.

When properly positioned and monitored, vibration sensors effectively identify the changes in the mechanical performance of wind turbines that are the tell-tale signs of a developing fault. Correcting malfunctions at an early stage can save thousands of dollars in repair fees, as well as reducing costs from lost output. Today, Meggitt’s sensors and systems help monitor vibration on as many as 10,000 wind turbines.

Baron High Vacuum Dielectric Liquid (BA-WF) Purifiers

Wind farm pad mount transformers are susceptible the effects of insulating liquid degradation through the accumulation of moisture, gases and particulate produced and introduced through their normal operation.

These contaminants not only reduce the dielectric strength of the liquid, they also contribute to the breakdown of the liquid and solid insulation. This results in a shortened life for the transformer.

Some wind farm pad mounts are also susceptible to combustible gas generation in the insulating liquid. Regular vacuum purification removes all dissolved gases returning total gas content to <0.25%.

Baron WF series processors are designed to process and maximize dielectric strength in electrical insulating liquids – including mineral oil, natural esters, synthetic esters, silicone oil and LFH’s (less flammable hydrocarbons) – used in transformers, tap changers, circuit breakers, and other oil-filled electrical devices.

Contaminants removed:

CLASS II LIQUIDS: Contain excessive particulate, moisture, and dissolved gases. A basic high vacuum purifier will remove all three of these and return the oil to within specification.

CLASS III LIQUIDS: Contain products of oxidation like acids and sludge that affect neutralization number, color, interfacial tension and power factor.  If these are present, the addition of an optional fullers earth reclamation system is necessary for their removal.

System flow rates: 150, 300 or 600 USgph are available; all are fully adjustable from zero to maximum by simply adjusting the outlet valve. The 600 USgph system is the most commonly applied. All sizes are provided with an onboard generator to power the unit such that only oil connections to the transformer need to be made to begin processing.

Vacuum pumping system: As standard, is sized for multi-pass flipping of the oil in the transformer tank to achieve the desired moisture and gas levels. Vacuum packages suitable for combined oil processing and transformer evacuation are also available.

Portability: Every system flow is provided in a high-quality bumper pull trailer with rear and curbside doors. The integral generator is installed through the nose of the trailer with the purifier in the rear.

Accessories: Hose reels, ppm moisture-in-oil monitors, and or onboard oil storage for temporary oil holding are available. In addition, the standard oil-sealed 2-stage vane vacuum pump can be upgraded to a low-maintenance, high performance dry screw pump.
